Get It Right at the Start

Families who seek the help of an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) get a guru of breastfeeding with all of the knowledge and support that she provides. By finding one before you begin breastfeeding, or contacting one shortly after birth, you equip yourself with the very best support available to help you reach your breastfeeding goals. You benefit from her years of study and experience with her full attention and expertise focused on you. An IBCLC is required to learn, and continue to learn, how to best support you and your baby. An IBCLC spends time reading breastfeeding research and related journals, connecting with other lactation professionals, attending conferences, and staying up to date on the latest methods, research, and breastfeeding products. She combines this with her understanding of generations of women’s wisdom to bring you and your family the best care available.

We IBCLCs know that there are obstacles to the initiation and continuation of breastfeeding. I have learned that insufficient pre-birth education about breastfeeding can create hurdles to overcome in the immediate postpartum period. My goal is always to provide the best possible conditions for getting your milk into your baby. Years of pediatric nursing experience have given me both the wisdom to appreciate the beautiful variety of breastfeeding families and the training to recognize medical issues should they arise.
